Much electric energy is being wasted with air compressor systems in plants.
In many larger industries, the air compressor system can amount to 20% to 30% of the total electrical kW load in the plant. In addition, air leak surveys have repeatedly shown that in larger plants several hundred kW of plant demand load can be needed just to make up for the air leaks throughout the entire compressed air system. In fact just a ¼ inch leak in a 100 psi compressed air system can cost $16,000 per year and in many cases we have seen air lines open to the atmosphere throwing away compressed air because shut off and bleed valves have failed in the open position.
